The Adult Academy
The Academy provides an enriching learning environment for adults, supporting families through a variety of leadership, life skills and educational topics. Community leadership and academic advocacy for children are central to the goal of The Academy. The Academy is one of the few adult educational programs in West Dallas structured as an autonomous and self-reinforcing community body. Each learning Module meets once per week for six weeks.
The Leadership Council is comprised of 7 graduates from year-long leadership classes. Graduates learn about community advocacy, effective meetings and communication. The Council establishes governance and guidelines that administer The Academy, reviewing and approving learning module options.
Adult Learning Modules are offered in Spring and Fall meeting once per week for nine weeks. Adults may choose one or more classes. Learning modules include courses in financial and computer literacy, ESL, college and career readiness for parents of students, and community leadership. Upon completion, adults receive certificates for their commitment and learning.
