Summer Internship Sites: FAQs

Why should I hire Wesley-Rankin students?
  • Students are participants in Wesley-Rankin Aspiring Professionals (WRAP), an educational training program designed to train West Dallas youth in skills needed for the professional world.
  • Students will have completed at least two years of technical and soft-skill training in our program with rigorous requirements for attendance, punctuality, and follow-through on assignments. Training has covered topics essential to workforce professionalism including ethics & emotional intelligence, customer service, problem-solving, communication, and time management.
  • “There’s no shortcut to experience.” The next step for these students is to practice their training and career skills outside of the immediate Wesley-Rankin context. We believe these Aspiring Professionals are quality candidates for you.
How many hours will interns work?
  • The Wesley-Rankin Summer Internship program is designed for students to work between 20 and 40 hours per week.
  • The summer schedule is set to be 7 weeks long, typically starting around the 2nd week of June and ending the last week of July.
When will they work?

Employers have the flexibility to provide an ideal schedule for interns. For example, some interns may work Monday-Thursday for five hours per day; others may work Monday-Friday for four hours per day.

What kind of work can I expect them to be ready for?

Interns are adaptable to most entry-level work. Tasks they have excelled in previously include:

  • Culinary arts
  • Community engagement
  • Constructions
  • New client intake
  • Office assistance
  • Inventory management & organization
  • Linework
  • New volunteer training & integration
  • Research
  • Data entry
How much do interns earn?
  • We ask that our interns are provided wages of at least $13.50 /hour.
  • If this presents a problem, Wesley-Rankin would like to support you in still providing an internship opportunity for students. Please reach out to Rachel Kramer Girgis to discuss possible solutions.
What do we expect of employers?

We ask employers to provide meaningful work for interns that will support their professional development. Other expectations include:

  • Attend summer internship hiring fair
  • Identify a primary supervisor and secondary supervisor for the intern who will provide weekly coaching and maintain excellent communication with the intern and Wesley-Rankin
  • One supervisor must complete a beginning-of-term and end-of-term performance evaluation of the intern (20 min each)
  • One supervisor complete an end-of-summer satisfaction survey regarding employer experience
  • Help the intern determine the best way to represent their experience at your company on their resume at the end of the internship
What are you expecting interns to come away with at the end of summer?

There’s no better way to experience professionalism than with a hands-on approach. We hope interns will gain new skills, identify gifts and growth areas, create valuable connections, learn through exposure to new environments, and practice important workplace skills like communication and time management.

What is the process of becoming an employer?

The first step is to get in touch with Rachel Kramer Girgis. Rachel will discuss the opportunity further with you and answer any additional questions. If both parties feel it’s a good fit, we will conduct a site visit, provide a Master Relationship Agreement (MRA) to be signed, and work together to prepare a job description and other necessary information for the future intern.
